This is the first post I’ve written for this blog, originally in Japanese for my friends in Japan. It’s one of my favorite stories, so I’ve translated it into English to share it again. Phnom Penh, the vibrant capital of Cambodia, is renowned for its stunning temples and rich historical landmarks. But for me, the true charm lies along the beer bar street by the Riverside. Another Phnom Penh Riverside beer bar story. You might be wondering just how many times this guy went to Riverside. I can tell you, every night except that one night when I got completely knocked out by eating an entire happy pizza. The beer bars were the exact reason I went to Phnom Penh, and I can tell you it was absolutely worth it. The bars in Riverside, Phnom Penh, were bustling at night. Girls sat outside on plastic stools, while the shops were mostly empty inside. You could pick anyone you liked right at the entrance. Each place had at least eight girls, and with a bar every few steps, there were countless girls to choose from! Some girls were more to my taste than others, and I could afford to be picky with so many options. Most were polite, letting you hold their hand or chat closely. Some were happy to share a kiss after a couple of drinks, especially if they liked you. There wasn’t much pole dancing or erotic stage performances like in Thailand’s go-go bars, but the vibe in Phnom Penh was friendly and fun. It was 8:00 PM, and I started my night at the first stop, a lively bar with a bright, inviting entrance.
